Be A Creature of Good Habits

The plan for getting things done starts by creating good habits — long before the morning’s first cup o’Joe.

Some may argue that you put off tomorrow what you don’t want to do today. Funny statement at a cocktail party, but unproductive if you’re looking to accomplish anything.

I’m a firm believer in doing the hardest or most important thing first. It’s a little mind trick. I vacuum the dog hair first. For me, it makes cleaning toilets a breeze. You get the drift.

Many super productive people make a list of what they need to do the next day before they go to bed. I’ve tried this with limited success. I start off listing two or three things and it quickly turns into a grocery list.

If you’re like me you’ve tried and failed at “systems”.

Over time I’ve found what motivates me, besides chocolate. I’m more likely to get things finished if they’re tackled in the morning. Actually I get a little rush when I can cross something off a to-do list. Point is to pick a way to discipline yourself and go from there.

  • If you want to lose 20 pounds, create a morning workout habit. Take a walk. Lift weights. Enroll in a yoga class. Eat healthy
  • If you want to start a new business, and you still have a day job, get up early to focus on your ideas. Skip the morning news.
If you want to become more focused, create a morning meditation routine. Play soothing music.
  • If you want to improve relationships, skip reading the newspaper and talk while sipping that cup o’Joe.
  • If you want to write a book, commit to writing a few pages or a specific word count each morning.

You can create good habits for any time of the day. Pick the time that brings you the best results. If it’s super important to you at least give mornings a chance.

Be a good creature of habit and you’ll surprise yourself with the results. Reward yourself with chocolate.

BE F*CKING AWESOME TODAY! (and every day)
